The same problem, with different priorities

You open Gmail to find an attachment. Your eyes catch a new subject line. You read it, remember three other things, and forget why you opened Gmail. No elaborate productivity theory required. The inbox was right there.

Both products address that visual interruption. OpenRang combines its Hide Inbox control with conversation reminders. Inbox When Ready describes a focus workflow that also includes inbox budgets and scheduled lockouts.

Choose the behavior you want to change

  • New subject lines steal your attention: hide the inbox before writing a message or finding a document. Reveal it after that task is finished.
  • You keep revealing the inbox anyway: compare Inbox When Ready’s budgets and scheduled lockouts. A manual hide button leaves the choice with you.
  • You forget individual conversations: use a conversation reminder with a clear next action.

Hiding is not pausing delivery

Hide Inbox changes what is visible. New messages can still arrive, and this feature does not promise to suppress notifications or hide the inbox in other clients. Neither “quiet screen” nor “empty-looking inbox” means mail delivery has stopped.

Try one focus extension at a time when evaluating the view. Otherwise it can be difficult to tell which control is hiding what. Keep scheduled reminders in the system that owns them until they are resolved.
